Function / Content

This series consists of survey plans referred to by the Department of Lands as the "DIA" (Diagram Plans) series. The plans record the survey detail for the area designated, including the locality, index/reference box with number of sections, area (section, road, total), description and scale for the first 100 plans. From plan 101 they include a table down the right hand side with the following information azimuth assumed at or assumed from, date of marking, field book number, scale, public plan number, office reference which includes calculation book number, chainage close, angular close, area, compared with FB(field book), examined, diagram passed and date registered. The plans have been certified by a licensed surveyorr, the survey approved and certified correct by the Surveyor General. The plans are in a scale of chains/feet to inches, some have the conversion table feet to metres stamped and dated. The small format DIA survey plans numbered 1 to 512 with dates 1869-1936 and printed on canvas/linen. Survey plans numbered 1 to 100 are manually drafted duplications of selected DBK (Diagram Book) plan series; survey plans 101 to 497 are loose survey diagrams replacing the DBK and TBK (Town Book) series; and survey plans numbered 498 to 512 were originally labelled M2 - M16 and are the Gold Mining Lease plans.
